DeFi stands for a better finance
Decentralized Finance (DeFi) provides financial infrastructures that operate autonomously on a decentralized network (aka blockchain), eliminating the risk of service disruption or manipulation by centralized intermediaries, as well as offering full transparency of the process thanks to how these networks are designed. These systems are built to be permissionless, meaning no one can exclude us from using them—they are a public good accessible to all. Additionally, decentralized governance ensures that these infrastructures cannot be altered without community input, giving users a say in the decision-making process.
Does it sound like a financial utopia, too good to be true?
It was born with a mission
Public blockchains like Ethereum and DeFi applications built on top of these were meant to empower millions of individuals to take control of their financial lives without reliance on intermediaries or facing unjust exclusion. It is both about empowering individuals in developing countries and helping out the population of developed countries struggling with their finances.
Defi could be impactful for everyone who feels let down or simply disappointed by traditional financial services.
DeFi is great
But it needs to be reloaded
To become truly awesome
DeFi fails for now
DeFi is a great tool for traders, but traders are just a small fraction of the world population.

Beyond them, Few turn to DeFi (let's be honest with ourselves) for a loan to finance their education, nor are young professionals using DeFi to bootstrap extra liquidity on a tough month or better manage their savings. The question is: "What can be done to change that?"

DeFi could be so much more to billions of users with real problems. It is time for DeFi to grow out of its teenage years...

From Outlier to Respected Financial Actor
To reload DeFi with what it is still missing,, we need to collectively answer these three questions:
-
Ease of Use: How can DeFi become as easy to drive as a car rather than a spaceship? If you need to bridge from one chain to another, have the right token to pay, etc, that's too much friction.
-
Trust and Reliability: How can DeFi stop being depicted as the rebel black sheep of finance? If you hear about hacks, lack of regulatory clarity, lack of standards, and anonymous founders, that's too much uncertainty.
-
Clear Benefits: How can DeFi become an as intuitive option as Revolut and other neobanks, and other fintech solutions? If you read about staking, liquid staking, and yield farms, notice interfaces with plenty of trading information but still have no clue how use this application to achieve your goals, that's too much technicalities.
Once we have the answers, it is time for concrete collective action:
-
Financial education : centralised financial providers tend to absolve users from thinking too much, DeFi requires responsible users but it can be a fun teacher
-
Transparency standards for DeFi products : a transparent code base is not enough if no user understands that code.
-
Transposition of policy goals, such as fair trading conditions, consumer protection, AML etc, : let’s ensure using DeFi does not feel like playing Russian roulette or swimming with sharks
-
Seamless solutions geared towards real-life use cases: we have all the Lego bricks, let’s build something useful with it
To reload DeFi, we need an industry movement, collective brainstorming, and collective implementation.

What do we offer? A forum to join forces
DeFi Reloaded is a Swiss Association set to bridge the gap between DeFi builders and impact seekers, to better combine their visions for
more concrete solutions,
less big statements about the potential.

-
Events to promote the Reloaded vision and hackathons to foster its building
-
Publications, incl. case studies
-
Toolkits such as transparency guidelines and risk scoring, promoting good practices
-
Active support to selected projects aligning with the Reloaded vision
-
And more: it is meant to be a collaborative effort, thus additional ideas are welcome from members
First step?
Launch the movement during DevCon
in Bangkok
at our inaugural DeFi Reloaded Event.
